Handmade Notebooks: Mini Jotters WORKSHOP, June 25

In partnership with Local Goods Colorado, the next workshop I'm doing is this in-person Mini Jotter project! We will have the class outside on the amazing deck space if the weather is nice :)

Elevate your everyday notes with these beautiful and functional mini jotter notebooks. You'll learn traditional bookbinding techniques, and add your creative flair with decorative cover and enclosure options. These little 4x6" books pack an artistic punch and are perfect for listmaking, keeping quotes, wedding vows, other special notes, or simply a beautiful way to write your grocery lists. They make amazing gifts too! Depending on timing, each participant will make 2-3 notebooks. Local bookmaker Kristen Law Lewis brings her gentle, engaging, and informative approach to this class experience.

Hand-bound Album - Spring Botanicals WORKSHOP, May 21

 In partnership with a great new-ish shop in Lafayette, Local Goods Colorado, I'm doing an in-person workshop which uses this beautiful paper that has natural inclusions like leaves and flower petals. 

We'll be outside on their amazing deck if the weather's nice :)

Make a functional and beautiful hand-bound album inspired by springtime! This project pairs thoughtfully-curated materials with traditional bookbinding techniques, resulting in an archival-quality album - perfect for 4x6 photos, scrapbooking, keepsakes, or writing or drawing.

Upcycled Notebook WORKSHOPS! April 2022

 I'm super excited to partner with Village Trading Co. to offer this in-person workshop!

Give your secondhand fabric another chance, as part of this fun and eco-friendly bookbinding project! Learn to make a notebook with a cloth cover and tree-free page paper. Bring your own fabric to *upcycle, or choose from our stash. All other materials and tools included. All levels welcome.

*Please bring a piece of fabric 8x10 inches or larger. Not-stretchy fabric is best, such as cotton (old dress shirt, quilting cotton, old sheet/pillowcase). Sturdy silks, linens, or poly blends usually work as well (silk shirt, scarf, napkin, etc). Stretchy things like t-shirts or sweaters (knits, jersey) will not work for this project. Feel free to just bring whatever you've got - we'll have spare fabric to use if needed.

Village Trading Co. is an amazing locally owned shop, focused on a low-waste way of life.

GREEN GIFTS

The ever-awesome Art Parts Creative Reuse Center is having their Green Gifts holiday market, and I've made some pocket notebooks using scraps from my larger bookbinding projects, fabric from second-hand sources, and other low-waste materials like mulberry bark paper, linen thread, and sugarcane byproduct paper! I've also used decorative scraps to enhance pencils made from 100% recycled newspaper. 

Paired together they make perfect little prezzies!

I'm so excited this is going down. I have really been on a roll with these nature-inspired journals and sketchbooks. They are made using upcycled covers from lost and lonely books, combined with vintage illustrations, geometric patterns and whatever else I fancy. Snakes for sale! Mushrooms for sale! Bugs for sale! Fall classes at Two Hands Paperie are ONLINE this season and I can't wait to zoom it up with everyone!

I am teaching THREE different classes which are all unique in their own way. I'll start with the new one first: it's called 'Fabric & Paper - Pocket Notebooks' and they are some really cute little books that make great gifts for your friends or for *ahem* yourself. Right in your pocket they go! We will practice stitching and making our own bookcloth... mad skillz to add to your toolkit.

We're also repeating the 2-session 'Upcycled Book' class where unloved hardback books (like these sweetie condensed Reader's Digests) get turned into fresh lovable journals with your own twist on vintage aesthetic. Last time we did this class, people totally blew me away with their creations!

WORKSHOP 'The Handmade Book' - Anderson Ranch Arts Center - Aug 23-27

 It is hard to describe just how magical a place the Anderson Ranch Arts Center is. In the mountains near Aspen, CO, the center has been a haven of creativity and coming together for artists for over 50 years. They offer year-round, world-class programs in ceramics, digital fabrication, furniture design/woodworking, painting/drawing, photography/new media, printmaking, and sculpture. Historic barns, cabins, and buildings combine with high caliber technology and equipment to provide a creative campus like none other.

Upcycled Book Class - March 7 & 14

 I know I always say I'm excited for whatever upcoming class is happening but this one I am extra-super excited for. 

I've been working on a new line of books where I upcycle covers from existing books that are unloved or destined for less glamorous things like the landfill. I've been so jazzed on how they've turned out that I turned the project into a class and am extra-super looking forward to sharing it!

For the class I scored some languishing Reader's Digest condensed series from the 60s-90s, and we'll be repurposing the covers into newly-bound journals. 

On the left are the covers I've chosen for the class...

...and after we wave our magic wands... JK! After we spend 2 afternoons learning about the ancient Coptic binding technique from the 2nd century, and having a ton of fun getting creative with our vintage covers, the result will be something like what is pictured on the right.

No experience necessary, all materials shipped directly to you in a cute little kit!

Spring 2021 ONLINE classes!

Here's a pic of me instructing my first ever online class - it was AWESOME and it sounds like the other online classes that Two Hands Paperie ran in 2020 went super-great too. Thank you to everyone who signed up for classes during this crazy time, we all really appreciate the community and the ability to create together and make things together even while staying physically apart.

Two Hands Paperie's classes are going virtual!! Crazy times, etc, etc. But I am so looking forward to hosting this class from my studio and spending time virtually with a group of book friends.

Commission: wedding planner journal

Hexagons hold special meaning for this couple, and they found some amazing fabric that really spoke to them. Intention setting seemed important for their wedding planning, so they commissioned me to create this journal using the fabric for the covers, with lots of pages with which to plan their big day! I love doing work like this, meeting friendly folks, and helping their creative dreams come into reality. What an honor to make this book - and it turned out beautifully.

Last class I taught before COVID shut things down - can't wait for in-person classes again someday! We had a ton of fun in this class and just look at those beautiful books!!
